Compact worlds are crowded, its shipyards run day and night, and its census takers stopped publishing numbers a decade ago. The new system is not an opportunity for the Compact. It is a requirement.
Ironveil is the Compact's military industry and standing fleet, forged in the era when fortifying a system meant surviving the century. Its doctrine is blunt: rumors are verified by reconnaissance, claims are made by occupation, and a planet belongs to whoever is still in orbit when the shooting stops. Ironveil regards the new system as the first true fleet war in generations, and it has been building toward this fight the entire time the diplomats were pretending it would never come.
